maybe he's scared of losing Victor at first (just like how he was when he was alive) but when he joins Zott's team it's cuz he realizes the Victor he's known is already gone and now he has to accept that whoaaa (stop me if cliche)
well, idk I like the idea of hate magic being established very early on with her character as sort of a ticking time bomb/dramatic irony for the reader, and also as an explanation for why her parents were so shitty at raising her (too scared to let her explore the outside world). Also, I imagine this is the main reason Hrok-Thar puts so much faith into her when he's "training" her during their time in prison, cuz he respects the power of the magic and manipulates it into his favor (telling her to guide her hate at first towards being in prison, then at her parents for letting her stay there, etc)
ALSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO we could provide the SMALLEST SEED of foreshadowing of the whole "love" thing cuz like, right as they're about to escape, when Grace is convinced she's in love with Hrok-Thar, she HEALS ONE OF HIS WOUNDS without realizing it (however, not more than that, since her love is a blind infatuation magnified by her trauma and all that and quickly shattered). I imagine a moment where Hrok-Thar goes "funny, I feel a lot stronger in this arm" or something.. just a slight hint that something is different.
